Grambling State found some offensive success through the air Saturday night, but TCU proved too much as the Horned Frogs rolled to a 63-7 win at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
Grambling State (2-1) pulled within 21-7 on a second-quarter touchdown pass from Reginald Johnson to Byron Eaton Jr., but TCU (1-1) answered before halftime and dominated the second half.
Johnson, making his second start of the season, completed 14 of 20 passes for 190 yards and a touchdown.
Jordan Bride caught four passes for 79 yards, including a 62-yard reception that helped set up Grambling State’s lone touchdown.
The Tigers put together their best drive of the night late in the second quarter, marching 91 yards in eight plays. Johnson capped it with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Eaton with 4:25 remaining in the half, cutting TCU’s lead to 21-7.
Any momentum was short-lived.
TCU answered with a 1-yard touchdown run by Joe Pitchford before halftime and pulled away in the second half.
The Horned Frogs finished with 676 yards of total offense while holding Grambling State to 210. TCU scored on eight of its nine possessions in front of 37,600 fans.
Quarterback Jaden Craig led the Horned Frogs, throwing for 391 yards and four touchdowns. Kari Ashley caught two touchdown passes, while Ka’Morreun Pimpton and Jeremy Scott also hauled in scoring passes.
TCU added touchdown runs from Major Everhart, Jon Denman and Amante Martin, while Teon Parks returned an interception 67 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Grambling State struggled to establish its running game, finishing with 20 net rushing yards on 28 attempts. The Tigers converted just 1 of 14 third-down opportunities.
Grambling State had an opportunity to get on the scoreboard first, but Diego Alfaro’s 20-yard field goal attempt was blocked in the opening quarter.
Defensively, Louis Foster led the Tigers with seven tackles, while Jaydon Scott recorded Grambling State’s lone sack.
The Tigers also lost a fumble and had a punt blocked in the fourth quarter.
