A Dubach man was arrested Sept. 9 on a second-offense drunken driving count after a single-vehicle rollover crash on Peterson Road.
Matthew A. Murphy, 23, was booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center on counts of second-offense operating a vehicle while intoxicated, careless operation, driving under suspension and failure to wear a seat belt, according to a police report.
A Lincoln Parish sheriff’s deputy was called to Peterson Road near Mays Crossing in reference to a single-vehicle rollover crash with injuries. Ambulance personnel evaluated the occupants of the vehicle, and all of them declined medical treatment.
Murphy, identified as the driver, said his steering locked up on him, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and roll it. The deputy determined during the investigation that no one in the vehicle had been wearing a seat belt and that Murphy’s driver’s license was suspended.
Murphy had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on him, along with glassy eyes and slurred speech. After being advised of his Miranda rights and asked about alcohol consumption, he said he had drunk five beers and shots of vodka. He performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests and was placed in restraints.
A records check showed Murphy had been arrested on a drunken driving count in 2023, and he said he is on probation for a driving under the influence case in Texas.
He was taken to the detention center, where he was observed for 15 minutes and advised of his rights relating to the chemical test for impairment. He then gave a breath sample that showed a blood-alcohol content of 0.117%, and he was booked without incident.
