Two Ruston residents were arrested on drug charges early Tuesday after a sheriff’s deputy found a crack pipe and a suspected crack rock inside a vehicle parked at the dead end of Hickory Street.
Kerry Washington, 62, and Martha Ann Perry, 63, were arrested at 12:10 a.m. Sept. 15 by the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office, according to arrest affidavits.
A deputy on patrol stopped to check on a vehicle parked at the dead end of Hickory Street. The deputy has found several vehicles there whose occupants were involved in illegal drug activity. Washington was in the driver’s seat, and Perry was also in the vehicle.
Both told the deputy they were just sitting there. Perry said the two were eating ice.
Washington got out of the vehicle, and both were advised of their Miranda rights. Both denied there was anything illegal inside.
The deputy found a used glass crack pipe between the driver’s seat and the center console. Under the driver’s seat was a small blue plastic baggie with a suspected crack rock beside it. A field test on the rock was positive for crack cocaine.
Washington and Perry denied using drugs and said they did not know about the items.
Both were booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center on one count each of possession of a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance (crack cocaine) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Perry was released on her own recognizance on the paraphernalia count.
