A Ruston man was arrested Thursday night after witnesses said he tried to drive a truck with two damaged tires out of a restaurant parking lot while appearing intoxicated, then got out and went after people who had tried to stop him.
Remington Keith Brazzel, 22, was arrested at 10:21 p.m. Sept. 17 by Ruston Police, according to an arrest affidavit.
Officers were sent to a local restaurant at about 9:45 p.m. after reports of a man who appeared to be intoxicated trying to drive through the parking lot with two damaged tires. Callers also reported that the man had gotten out of the vehicle and tried to harm people in the parking lot.
When officers arrived, Brazzel was trying to recover from being pepper sprayed.
One woman had her arm grabbed by Brazzel during the altercation before the pepper spray was used. Another woman told officers Brazzel swung his hand at her, knocking her cell phone out of her hand and damaging it.
Three witnesses said they saw Brazzel start the engine of a red GMC truck with damaged tires and sit in the driver’s seat with the engine running. The witnesses said people began yelling at Brazzel to get him out of the truck and keep him from driving out of the parking lot because he appeared to be intoxicated.
Officers also found that Brazzel’s driver’s license was suspended.
Brazzel was booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center on charges of first-offense driving while impaired, driving with a suspended license, two counts of simple battery and simple criminal damage to property. Bond was set at $4,500 total, and he was released on his own recognizance on the suspended license count.
