A Minden man was arrested early Thursday on a second-offense underage impaired driving charge after an officer investigating a crash saw him drive into a Ruston apartment complex.
Reagan Scott Bison, 19, was arrested at 12:01 a.m. Sept. 17 by Ruston Police, according to an arrest affidavit.
At about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, an officer working a report of a crash on private property saw Bison drive a black truck from West Line Avenue onto Henderson Street and into the Campus Commons Apartments. A second officer was called in to help with an impaired driving investigation and met Bison at his truck.
The officer immediately noticed a strong smell of alcohol on Bison’s breath, and it got stronger the longer he talked. Bison’s speech was slurred.
When he was asked to show where he thought the point of impact was on his vehicle, Bison had trouble keeping his balance as he walked around the truck. He also had trouble keeping his thoughts together. He would talk about the crash one moment and then switch to looking for his keys and phone.
After being read his Miranda rights, Bison denied drinking any alcohol. He agreed to field sobriety tests but insisted he could not do the balance tests because his left leg is longer than his right. He performed poorly on every test.
Bison was taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center, where he refused to give a breath sample. Based on evidence, he was booked on second offense DWI.
