Two Monroe 19-year-olds were arrested Sept. 19 after witnesses said one of them cocked a handgun at the other’s urging during an argument on Main Street near Grambling State University, and a stolen pistol was later found in their car, according to probable cause affidavits.
Elicia L. Elmore and Jerrod D. Cooper, both 19, were booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center.
Officers were sent to Main Street about 6:10 p.m. on a complaint that people in a Dodge Challenger had a gun and had “cocked the gun” in front of the complainants. A Grambling State detective spotted a Dodge Challenger matching the description heading north on Main Street and stopped it.
Elmore was driving. During a pat-down, officers found a small bag holding 1.9 grams of suspected marijuana. Cooper was identified as the front-seat passenger. Both were read their Miranda rights, agreed to talk with officers and denied having any guns or contraband in the car.
Because of the firearm complaint and the marijuana, the detective searched the car. Before the search began, Elmore told officers a handgun was under the driver’s seat. The detective found a black Glock 19 with a tan grip and an extended magazine there. A check of the gun showed it had been reported stolen through the Morehouse Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Witnesses told officers Elmore had been in a verbal argument with a woman over a cellphone. While Cooper sat in the front passenger seat, Elmore told him to “pull it,” witnesses said, and one witness said Cooper then cocked the gun. Both denied the allegations.
Both were taken to the university police department for processing before being booked into the detention center.
Elmore was booked on counts of principal to aggravated assault with a firearm, carrying a firearm in a school zone, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of marijuana under 14 grams and violation of the Uniform Controlled Dangerous Substances Law in a drug-free zone.
Cooper was booked on counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, carrying a firearm in a school zone and possession of a stolen firearm.
