A Monroe man ticketed for driving with a suspended license early Tuesday called 911 four times over the next hour to curse at dispatchers, then was arrested when an officer sent to check on him saw him driving again, according to an arrest affidavit.
Shannon Valdis Williams, 50, was arrested by the Ruston Police Department at 3:28 a.m. Sept. 22.
Ruston police stopped a white SUV driven by Williams at about 2:21 a.m. and cited him for driving under suspension and having no insurance. Officers then left the scene.
Over the next hour, Williams called 911 four times. Each time he was belligerent and yelled profanity at dispatchers because officers had taken his license plate.
After the fourth call, an officer was sent to the Exxon on West Alabama Avenue. The officer did not see Williams’ vehicle when he pulled into the lot, but while turning around he saw the SUV traveling west on West Alabama Avenue and turning into the Exxon parking lot.
The officer detained Williams and read him his rights. After being told of the charges, Williams said he did not mean to curse out the dispatchers.
Williams was booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center on charges of improper telecommunications, driving under suspension and no insurance. The driving under suspension and no insurance charges stem from his driving again after being cited earlier in the shift. He was released on his own recognizance on those two counts.
