K-9 alert during traffic stop leads to two drug arrests

A traffic stop in Choudrant over a missed turn signal led to drug charges against two Ruston residents Tuesday night, according to arrest affidavits.

The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Bobby L. Brown, 44, and Tessa Perot, 54, on Sept. 29 on Harris Road north of U.S. Highway 80.

At about 7:48 p.m., a deputy patrolling U.S. 80 saw a black Chevrolet truck headed west turn right onto Harris Road without signaling. The deputy pulled the truck over.

Brown was driving. He gave the deputy a Louisiana identification card and said his driver’s license was suspended. A records check showed he had four bench warrants through Ruston City Court and one through the Sheriff’s Office, and he was placed under arrest.

The deputy then asked Perot, the passenger, to step out of the truck. A K-9 deputy arrived, and his dog, Loki, sniffed around the outside of the truck and alerted to narcotics.

Deputies searched the truck and found a glass pipe with burn marks and a yellow bag of suspected methamphetamine under the passenger seat. Perot said she did not know anything about the drugs, and Brown said they were not his.

Both were booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center on charges of possession of a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Brown was also charged with driving under suspension and failure to use a turn signal. His bench warrants are for failing to appear on earlier charges of possession of a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance, driver’s license suspension or revocation, improper lane usage and disobeying a stop sign.
