A clerk was wounded Saturday evening in a holdup at a convenience store on Ruston’s northside, according to Ruston Police.
RPD Lieutenant Kayla Loyd said the suspect fired one shot, wounding the store clerk, before his gun apparently jammed. The clerk’s injuries are not considered life threatening.
Loyd said the masked robber entered the Raceway convenience store on the Farmerville Highway (LA 33) at about 8:13 p.m. He demanded money and fired one gunshot.
Surveillance video then shows the robber making motions to try to rack the slide on his semi-automatic pistol that had apparently jammed after the shot was fired.
When the robber was unable to clear the jam and the clerk failed to provide any money, the suspect fled from the store.
RPD posted video of the robbery on its Facebook page. The video shows the suspect wearing a gray zippered jacket with the hood pulled tightly around his face. He also appeared to be wearing black gloves and a black mask over the lower part of his face.
Investigators were still working on the case into Sunday morning.
