Search committee announces timeline for next Tech president

The Louisiana Tech University Presidential Search Committee formally accepted its charge and approved the presidential search advertisement and timeline during its inaugural meeting Thursday.

The committee’s work will continue through the semifinalist interview process as it reviews applicants and helps identify candidates to advance for consideration by the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.

“Louisiana Tech’s next president must understand what makes this University distinctive while also having a clear vision for where it can go,” said Dr. Rick Gallot, University of Louisiana System President and CEO and non-voting chair of the Search Committee. “That is why engagement from students, faculty, staff, alumni and the broader Tech community matters. Their perspectives will inform the Board’s work as it considers the candidates and ultimately selects the University’s next president.”

Under the approved timeline, applicant materials, which will be publicized through several higher education outlets, will be accepted through Friday, November 6. The Search Committee will reconvene in Baton Rouge on Friday, November 13 to review applicant materials and select semifinalists.

Semifinalists will participate in on-campus interviews at Louisiana Tech on Monday, November 16, and Tuesday, November 17. The interview process will include opportunities for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members to engage with the candidates and provide feedback.

Finalists selected by the Search Committee will advance to the full Board of Supervisors for interviews and consideration during a Special Board Meeting on Thursday, November 19, in Baton Rouge.

“Louisiana Tech has a proud history and an important future, and the selection of its next president is one of the most consequential responsibilities we undertake as a Board,” said Mark Romero, Chair of the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors and a member of the Search Committee. “We are looking for a leader who understands what makes Louisiana Tech distinctive, sees the opportunities ahead, and can bring people together around an ambitious vision for the University’s future.”

The approved search timeline is subject to change at the discretion of the Search Committee.

Other than Romero, the other seven voting members are board members Barry Busada, Steve Davison, Emily Lamkin, Keith Myers, Elizabeth Pierre and Kristine Russell, along with Louisiana Tech Faculty Senate President Michael Swanbom.

Other than Gallot, the non-voting members are John Allen, Bill Bailey, Katie Hall, Bill Hogan, Louisiana Tech Student Government Association President Maygen Jackson, Bruce Rushing, Louisiana Tech Vice President Emerita Corre Stegall, Turner and Ruston Mayor Ronny Walker.

Romero appointed the search committee, which is made up of UL System board members, Louisiana Tech faculty and students, alumni and Ruston community members. The group will help guide the search process, review candidates and advance recommendations to the board for consideration.
