Two arrested on drug charges after traffic stop

Two local individuals were arrested Oct. 8 on drug charges after a traffic stop for a loud exhaust, according to an arrest affidavit.

Amy B. Holleman, 55, of Spearsville, and Claude D. Smith, 57, of Farmerville, were taken into custody at 3:29 p.m. by the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy on patrol saw a Toyota CR-V with a loud exhaust pass his vehicle at about 3:11 p.m. and stopped it at Highway 33 and Antler Ridge. Smith, the driver, told the deputy he was aware of the noise and provided his license, registration and proof of insurance. Holleman, the passenger, agreed to show her identification.

The deputy had Smith step out of the vehicle and advised him of his rights. Smith was visibly shaking and sweating, the deputy reported. When asked if there was anything illegal in the vehicle, Smith answered, “Nothing that I know of.” The deputy then asked Holleman to step out and asked the same question. “I just got off work,” Holleman said.

Smith said the vehicle was not his, and Holleman said it belonged to her boyfriend.

A K-9 deputy was brought to the scene and alerted on the vehicle. A search turned up two packages of suspected methamphetamine weighing a total of 2.2 grams. Both Smith and Holleman denied the drugs were theirs, but each was seated within arm’s reach of where they were found.

Both were advised of their rights, placed in restraints and taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center. Each was booked on counts of possession of a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
