A red pickup truck that crashed off East Sibley Road and took out a fence led to the DWI arrest of a Spearsville man early Sunday.
Kenneth Yawn, 36, of Spearsville, was arrested Oct. 11 by the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office on charges of first-offense driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, careless operation and driving without a driver’s license.

Deputies were dispatched to the East Sibley Road area at about 12:21 a.m. after a caller reported an intoxicated driver who had left her residence, possibly headed toward Ruston, according to an arrest affidavit. Before deputies arrived, the caller phoned back to say she believed she had heard a wreck.
Deputies found a red Nissan truck with Mississippi plates that had crashed off the roadway and through a fence, and they found Yawn lying in a nearby ditch. Medics assessed him and cleared him medically. The affidavit states he had glassy, watery eyes and a strong odor of alcohol. After being advised of his rights, Yawn admitted he had been drinking but denied driving.
Two witnesses told deputies they saw Yawn drive away from the residence in the truck. Based on their statements and further investigation, deputies determined he was the driver. The affidavit states he performed poorly on a field sobriety test, and a records check showed his driver’s license had been canceled.
Yawn was arrested at 1:26 a.m. turned over to Lincoln Parish Detention Center deputies for booking. After being observed for at least 15 minutes, he provided a breath sample that measured 0.170%.
Yawn was released on his own recognizance on the careless operation and driver’s license charges. His bond on the DWI charge was set at $1,500.
