Smoke coming from a parked car on the Grambling State University campus led to the arrest of a Ruston man on marijuana charges Monday morning.
Adunyea Trevan Nichols, 28, of Ruston, was arrested Oct. 12 by the Grambling State University Police Department on charges of possession of marijuana in a drug-free zone and simple possession of marijuana.
An officer patrolling Doug Williams Drive saw a blue four-door sedan parked in a lot with smoke coming from inside, according to an arrest affidavit. As the officer approached, he detected an odor commonly associated with marijuana. When the driver rolled down the window, smoke rose from inside the vehicle and the odor became stronger.
The driver was identified as Nichols. He was asked to step out of the vehicle and was asked what was going on. Nichols admitted he had been smoking marijuana inside the vehicle, and an undetermined amount of suspected marijuana was found on his person.
Nichols was advised of his rights, handcuffed and taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center, where he was booked without further incident.
