Man arrested after standing in traffic

A Ruston man was arrested Friday afternoon after he returned to a business he had been told to stay away from and then stood in the middle of a busy road, forcing drivers to swerve around him.

Antoine Latez Spivey, 48, of Ruston, was arrested at 2:42 p.m. Oct. 16 by the Ruston Police Department on three charges.

According to an arrest affidavit, an officer was called to a business on Martin Luther King Drive that day over an unwanted person in the parking lot. Staff told the officer they wanted Spivey to leave and not come back because he had been harassing customers. The officer told Spivey to leave and warned him that he would be arrested if he returned. Spivey left.

The affidavit states that the officer later saw Spivey back in the parking lot of the same business. Around 2:30 p.m., Spivey stumbled out of the lot and stood in the middle of Martin Luther King Drive, acting erratically. He was dancing, swinging his fist in the air and shouting, and traffic had to swerve to avoid hitting him.

The officer approached Spivey and told him to put his hands behind his back, but he refused. When the officer tried to grab him, Spivey pulled away and backed up as if he were about to run. Another officer arrived, and Spivey was restrained and taken into custody. He was taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center to be booked.

Spivey was charged with simple obstruction of a highway, entering or remaining on property after being forbidden, and resisting an officer.
