Man arrested on multiple charges after police search home

A Ruston man was arrested Wednesday after police investigating a theft complaint spotted someone matching the description of a suspect who had fled from law enforcement.

Bymicha Gray, 37, of Ruston, was arrested at about 3:39 p.m. Oct. 21 by the Ruston Police Department on Courtney Avenue.

According to an arrest affidavit, an officer was investigating the theft complaint at about 2:51 p.m. when he saw a man sitting inside a white Chevrolet. Residents of the home told the officer no one should have been in the vehicle.

The man later got out and walked toward a nearby residence on the same street. As he crossed the roadway, the officer observed that he matched the description of a suspect who had fled from law enforcement.

The officer and a sergeant went to that residence and contacted a person who gave verbal permission to enter. While the two officers entered, a lieutenant held the rear perimeter. As they approached the bedroom, the lieutenant radioed that someone was trying to flee through a window, and a taser was deployed.

The officer then contacted Gray and advised him of his rights. Gray gave a false name and date of birth, the affidavit states. A bag Gray was seen wearing contained a clear glass pipe with suspected methamphetamine residue.

Gray was taken to Northern Louisiana Medical Center for evaluation. He was released shortly afterward and booked into Lincoln Parish Detention Center.

He was booked on charges of resisting an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also booked on a Ruston Police Department warrant for resisting an officer and on two Third Judicial District Court warrants for resisting an officer and possession of a Schedule II drug.
