Homecoming brings generations of Aggies back to Choudrant

In a community where generations of the same families have passed through the school’s halls, homecoming is an annual reunion of friends and family.

Parents return to the same campus their children now attend, former students gather along the sidelines and in the stands, and grandparents arrive to watch their younger Aggies take the court. And with Choudrant’s recent growth, families who have been part of the school for decades are mingling with those who have only recently made Choudrant home.

“Homecoming is always one of my favorite events of the school year,” Choudrant High Principal Chris Jones said. “We get to link the past to the present and celebrate a tradition that has gone on for almost 100 years. This year we are honoring the class of 1976 for their 50th reunion. They will come for the presentation and take a tour and see all of the changes that have taken place in the last 50 years, but they will also tell the stories of their favorite events and their former teachers and reminisce on what made Choudrant High School special to them.”

Choudrant High School has seen enrollment increase substantially over the past decade, with younger classes considerably larger than many of the graduating classes ahead of them. Yet events like homecoming still preserve something distinctly small-town: the sense that the school belongs not only to its current students, but to the community around it.

Friday’s celebration will bring together those different generations of Aggies through the assembly, royal court presentation and basketball game. This year’s Homecoming Court, led by Queen Lydia Dickerson and Maid of Honor Kelsee Guillotte, will be presented at 5:30 pm Friday, November 6, followed by a 6 pm back-to-back basketball scrimmages against Saline High School, with the boys taking the court first.

For current students, this is one of the signature weeks of the school year. For former students, it is a wonderful time to come back. Have fun everyone, and Go Aggies!
