Isla Airey has been named Louisiana Tech’s recipient of the Conference USA Winter of Spirit of Service Award, announced by the league on Friday.
Airey has participated in a wide range of community service events, including serving at the Alpine Nursing Home, helping renovate the local Boys and Girls Club, and serving Thanksgiving meals at First Baptist Ruston and The Bridge Community Church. She also volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House in Memphis, Tennessee, where she met a local Ruston child who is currently undergoing treatments for leukemia and is a huge Lady Techster fan.
A two-time Dean’s List member, Airey owns a 3.89 GPA in kinesiology and health sciences. She has started 27 games for the Lady Techsters, averaging 5.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game.
The freshman forward won the CUSA Freshman of the Week on November 25 after securing a double-double against Mississippi Valley with 12 points and 11 rebounds with five blocks.
She has recorded five or more blocks four times this season, including a seven-block performance against Lindenwood in the Super 16 of the WNIT for the fourth most in a single game in program history. Her 60 blocks on the season rank third in Lady Techster history among freshmen and 10th overall.
