Teen arrested in Farmerville gang-related shooting

A Farmerville teen was arrested last week in connection with a 2024 shooting that authorities identified as gang-related.

Broderick Eugene Nute, III, 17, was arrested August 5 on numerous felonies after a yearlong investigation in which a residence and an ambulance station were struck by numerous bullets.

In June 2024, Union Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of gunfire within the city limits of Farmerville. During the investigation, UPSO deputies learned a residence on Ann Street had been struck in multiple places by gunfire. Additional rounds also struck the nearby Pafford EMS ambulance station.

Evidence collected at the scene indicated the suspects approached the residence on foot. While no suspects were immediately identified, deputies believed the shooting was gang related and likely connected to another shooting earlier in the month.

During a foot pursuit in July 2024, a suspect discarded a backpack while fleeing from deputies. Despite an extensive search, the suspect was not located that day. The backpack recovered by deputies contained a firearm, loaded magazine, drug paraphernalia, and cash. The firearm was submitted to the crime lab, where it was matched to shell casings recovered from the shooting.

The investigation revealed the suspect who discarded the backpack was Nute.

UPSO investigators conducted an extensive investigation, interviewing multiple individuals who were present during the shooting. Four persons were present in the residence, and six Pafford EMS employees were inside the ambulance station. Investigators determined the residence was the intended target. As a result of the investigation, Nute, was identified as the shooting suspect.

On August 5, deputies arrested Nute at a Farmerville residence. During the arrest, Nute physically resisted by trying to pull away from deputies. Deputies recovered a suspected Ecstasy pill Nute threw on the ground while being handcuffed.

Nute was booked into the Union Parish Detention Center on the following charges:

–illegal use of weapons

–attempted first degree murder (4 counts)

–aggravated assault with a firearm (6 counts)

–aggravated criminal damage to property (9 counts)

–possession of a Schedule I controlled substance (ecstasy)

–resisting an officer

Nute’s bail was set by Third District Court at $1,713,500.
