
A Grambling woman was charged with child desertion after a naked 3-year-old child was found wandering around an apartment complex.
Anyah Catrice Broome, 24, was arrested Aug. 12 for child desertion after police investigated a report of a child being left alone.
Grambling Police responded to a Grambling Housing Authority property on West College Avenue to investigate the report of a child being seen with wearing no clothes in the playground area.
The property manager told police she was stopped by tenant and told that a 3-year-old nonverbal female child was naked on the slide in the on the playground.
Broome was located and admitted she had left her 3-year-old home alone because she needed to go to the Grambling State University campus for a few minutes. She said her daughter is autistic and had fallen asleep and she did not want to wake her up. She said she was gone approximately 30 minutes before she returned home.
The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services was contacted and took custody of the child.
GPD records showed that on Aug. 5, officers investigated another report of the child being left at home alone. An officer found that the bedroom the door where the child was located was tied shut with extension cords so she could not escape. Broome arrived home about 30 minutes after police and said that she was handling a DoorDash.
Broome was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for child desertion.
