Homicide Update: Victim was sleeping, funeral Saturday

by Wesley Harris

The Ruston Police Department continues to investigate the shooting death of Dallis N. Rhone, a 15-year-old Ruston High School student, who was shot and killed in an drive-by shooting while he slept in his bed.

Police said the shooting occurred about 3:00 a.m. on November 6 in the 700 block of Second Avenue. Apparently gunshots were fired from the street into the home. Rhone was found wounded and was taken to Northern Louisiana Medical Center. He later died of his injuries.

A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Rhone’s death.

This week Chief Eric Watson said investigators were still following leads but hoped for more citizens to share any information they had.

Rhone’s funeral is scheduled for Saturday at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston, according to King’s Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. immediately followed by a Celebration of Life.

The shooting is the third murder in Ruston this year. RPD has made arrests in the previous two cases.
