Car burglaries persist despite investigations

Ruston Police received reports of at least four car burglaries last week despite extra patrols and diligent investigations.

Lt. Kayla Loyd, spokesperson for RPD, said the most recent spate of break-ins was in the Alabama Avenue – Maple Street – Barnett Springs Avenue area.

Little or nothing was taken from the unlocked cars, Loyd said, but victims saw clear signs someone had rummaged through their vehicles.

“I think they were looking for guns, specifically, since other items of value like a laptop were not taken,” she said.

RPD has made several arrests in car burglary cases recently, but suspects bond out rather quickly and as yet unidentified suspects are also likely involved.

Police strongly encourage owners to lock their cars no matter where they are parked, even in carports and garages and avoid leaving valuables in plain view.
