Numerous drugs found by K-9 on stop

Two Ruston men were arrested on numerous drug and weapon charges after their vehicle was stopped Monday afternoon.

A Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy on patrol saw a Honda Accord with excessively tinted windows traveling on Louisiana Highway 33. During the stop, the deputy saw the occupants making furtive movements, including throwing bags into the back seat.

During the course of the stop, a LPSO drug dog performed an open air sniff around the car and alerted to the presence of drugs. A search of the Honda revealed large quantities of suspected marijuana, synthetic marijuana, methamphetamine, and ecstasy.

Also found in the vehicle were plastic bags commonly used to package narcotics, a digital scale, and a Glock 43 9mm pistol. The pistol was within the reach of the driver, Lantis Tremel Tatum, 25, who was determined to be a convicted felon.

A check showed the Lincoln Parish Narcotics Enforcement Team held three arrest warrants for Tatum for distribution of Schedule IV controlled substances.

Both Tatum and the passenger, 22-year-old Tykerion J. Palmer were booked for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, marijuana, synthetic marijuana, and ecstasy and possession of a firearm during commission of a drug felony.

Tatum was additionally charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, illegal window tint, and the three LPNET warrants.

Bail amounts were not available.
