State police intercept I-20 drug load

A Jackson, Miss., man was arrested by Louisiana State Police on Interstate 20 last Tuesday morning after three pounds of marijuana was found in his vehicle on a traffic stop.

A state trooper stopped a car traveling east on I-20 about 9 a.m. Tuesday after seeing it weaving from side to side. Curtis Williams, 32, appeared nervous and smelled like burning marijuana.

Williams told the trooper he had been smoking a marijuana “blunt” in the car and he would get it. The trooper saw a handgun between the seat and console and the suspected marijuana cigarette in plain view nearby.

Williams was detained and a search discovered a duffel bag in the trunk containing approximately three pounds of suspected marijuana along with digital scales and plastic bags typically used for packaging marijuana for sale.

Williams was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under suspension, and improper lane use.

Bail was set at $50,000.
