Car burglar nabbed through tracking device
Ruston Police arrested a man for burglarizing vehicles early Monday morning after a victim tracked his stolen wallet to the suspect’s residence.
George Anthony, 51, of Ruston, was arrested for simple burglary, attempted simple burglary and theft after officers investigated a report of a wallet and radar detector being stolen from a vehicle on West Kentucky Avenue.
Shortly after midnight Monday morning, a victim said he left his vehicle unlocked and the wallet and radar detector had been stolen, but the wallet contained a smart tracker device. A neighbor said he had seen a red SUV pull out of the victim’s driveway earlier. When the victim saw that the items were missing, he saw that the tracker was at a residence on Third Avenue. The victim and the neighbor went to the Third Avenue residence and saw the same red SUV in the driveway.
Several officers went to the residence where they talked to George Anthony. Anthony was identified as the suspect in a previous attempted burglary on Marie Avenue on January 19. Anthony had been seen on surveillance video attempting to open car doors and attempting to and stealing a doorbell camera and another camera at a Marie Avenue residence.
The wallet belonging to the Kentucky Avenue victim was found on Anthony and the radar detector was inside the red SUV.
Anthony was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center. His bail amount was set at $65,000.
