Over $2,000 in goods taken from Ruston store
Two men were arrested for shoplifting over $2,000 in merchandise from the Walmart in Ruston last Sunday.
Jamareo Ridley, 35, and Deshone Jerome Manuel, 24, both of Homer, were arrested after loss prevention officers reported they had observed two men take items from the store to a vehicle parked outside.
Ruston Police were given clothing descriptions of the two men and located them walking away from the parking lot. Ridley initially refused multiple verbal commands to stop. The two men were detained and the vehicle was located and the merchandise recovered. The retail value of the items taken was over $2,450.
During in the investigation, an officer heard yells coming from inside his patrol car. He opened the rear door and found Ridley lying across the seat with a white substance around his mouth. Ridley sat up, and the officer saw the seat was wet and covered with what appeared to be broken up pills. Ridley admitted to consuming a variety of pills to dispose of them.
Ridley was transported to the Northern Louisiana Medical Center by ambulance where he was treated and later released.
Both men were booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for felony theft. Ridley was also charged with resisting an officer and obstruction of justice by destroying evidence. Ridley’s bail was set at $5,500. Manuel’s bail had not been set as of publication time.
