A 40-year-old Ruston man was arrested by Louisiana Tech Police after an officer spotted him allegedly stealing a bicycle from a campus apartment complex Sunday morning.
Robert Dorsey, 40, of Cardinal Street, was observed on surveillance video about 7:30 a.m. trying to remove a bicycle from a rack at the Pearce apartment complex at California Avenue and Homer Street. Dorsey rode away on the bike as officers were radioed to converge on the scene. Sgt. Allen Brown spotted Dorsey on California Avenue and arrested him. During the arrest, Dorsey reportedly kicked the officer and resisted.
During a search of Dorsey’s backpack after the arrest, officers found tools and bicycle parts and a glove containing a bag of suspected crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
Dorsey was booked for theft under $1,000, possession of a Schedule II drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, and battery of a police officer. At the time of booking, a Tech officer wrote several bicycle thefts had been reported on campus within the past month.
Bail has been set at $14,500.
