LPSO deputy make drug, weapons arrest

The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Department logged its third illegal weapon arrest in less than a week after a Tuesday morning traffic stop.

At about 12:30 early Tuesday morning, Deputy Dee Fleming stopped a vehicle on West Alabama Avenue near Tech Drive for a traffic violation. When Fleming approached the driver, the deputy smelled marijuana emanating from the vehicle. When asked if there were weapons or drugs in the vehicle the driver, Caleb D. Clark, 23, of Monroe replied no. When the deputy said he smelled marijuana, Clark answered he may have a few grams in the vehicle.

During a search of the car, a large bag of marijuana was found in a hidden compartment near the steering wheel. A digital scale and a large number of plastic baggies typically used to weigh and package drugs were also discovered. A 9mm pistol was recovered from under the driver’s seat.

Clark was arrested and booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for possession of a Schedule I drug with intent to distribute, illegal possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and no headlight.

Bail had not been set as of Tuesday afternoon, and Clark remained in custody.
