It’s been four wins in a row for the now 8th ranked Ruston Bearcats (4-1; 0-0 2-5A) after another big victory last Friday night over St. Thomas More 51-27.
Now Ruston will take its momentum to Cenla to open District 2-5A play against the Pineville Rebels (2-3; 0-0 2-5A) for the second road game in a row for the Bearcats.
“They have new head coach, and he’s in the middle of trying to turn a program into something where they can be consistent winning,” Bearcat head coach Jerrod Baugh said. “It can’t change overnight and it’s a long process. They’ve got some good players in some spots. I expect them to get better as the year goes on. Offensively, they do some different things that we have had to work at during practice this week.”
The Louisiana Sports Writers Association put the Bearcats in the Top 10 in all of 5A for the state of Louisiana this past week. It is the first time under Baugh that the Bearcats have been ranked in the Top 10 in his tenure during the regular season.
Ruston dominated St. Thomas More on the road last week in the victory. Junior Dyson Fields finished with 250 more yards from scrimmage and four total touchdowns. Senior fullback Devian Wilson came back after recovering from an injury to rush for 84 yards and two touchdowns.
