Phillip Smart is starting a new job soon.
Smart, the former city of Minden economic development director, announced at Minden’s city council meeting that he has resigned from his position to become the new economic developer in Lincoln Parish.
Ruston Mayor Ronnie Walker said Smart was a bright, energetic young man who would be an asset to Ruston.
“We’re really excited about (Smart) joining our staff,” Walker said. “We’re excited for what he can do for our city. He’s done a great job in Minden, and he’ll do a great job here.”
During the Minden City Council meeting this week, Smart said hopes the best for the city of Minden and is willing to help find his replacement if the time allows.
“I’m definitely here and willing to help replace the economic developer,” Smart said. “I’ll be at Lincoln Parish, at the City of Ruston. I’ll just be a phone call away.”
Smart and another city employee were the focus of problems between some council members and the mayor and the inability to pass a budget. The Minden city council passed a budget at the council meeting Monday after months of delay. For more information, visit the Webster Parish Journal.
