It may sound like it should be on the beach, but a mermaid silhouette wedding gown has the versatility to go from wedding to reception in whatever venue the couple chooses.
This dress is most suited for brides with curvy hourglass or muscular body structure, as it is snugly fitted to the body. Mermaid silhouette wedding gowns are fitted closely through the bust, waist and hips and then they flare out dramatically at the bride’s knee – almost creating the look of a mermaid tail.
A similar dress, covered in a previous article in this series, is the trumpet silhouette. The trumpet silhouette fits snugly around the bride’s waist and hits and then flares out at the mid-thigh, instead of at the knee.
The silhouette, while known for making a romantic and youthful figure, has undergone a transformation since 2020, moving to a more modern style in the past two years. The dress, while timeless and a classic in the wedding venue, now often offers sleek and clean lines, often even with a plunging neckline.
The mermaid silhouette is glamorous and striking and allows for a promising noticeable first impression. However, they do restrict movement, so if there may be a lot of dancing at the reception, a bride may want to choose a different dress for the wedding and reception or choose a second dress for the reception.
