Students, teachers receive accolades

Three students have been named as district level Students of the Year, and four teachers will compete at the state level for Teacher of the Year in Lincoln Parish.

Avery Dixon with A.E. Phillips will represent the elementary students, Melissa Le with A.E. Phillips will represent the middle school students, and Jason Willis with Ruston High School will represent the high school students. These students will compete at the regional level for the parish.

For the Teacher of the Year, the following teachers will move on to compete at the state-level:

  • Melane Slocum, Simsboro Elementary School, early elementary
  • Karla Doss, Simsboro Elementary School, elementary
  • Megan Hadley, Choudrant High School, middle school
  • Ashlee Bell, Ruston High School, high school

When Doss was announced as Teacher of the Year for the school, she said there were so many great teachers in the parish who deserved the honor as well.

“My goal as a teacher is to help students grow to their full potential in both academics and their feeling of self worth,” Doss said in an earlier interview. “I want every student to see how much they are loved and how brilliant they are.”
