Adams, Vandenlangenberg headline All-LPJ Team

The level of girls high school basketball in Lincoln Parish was at an all-time high this year with all five teams earning a spot in their respective class or division of the state playoffs.

The Lincoln Parish Journal is honored to announce the 2021-22 LPJ all-Parish teams.

Our first team consists of senior guard Sarah Adams (Cedar Creek), junior guard Ikeia Brown (Simsboro), sophomore guard Jaliyah McWain (Ruston), junior forward Emerald Parker (Ruston) and senior forward Kylee Portilloz (Choudrant).

Our second team consists of junior guard/forward Allie Furr (Cedar Creek), senior guard Tiyan Heard (Lincoln Prep), sophomore guard Zaccheya Jackson (Ruston), junior forward Mattie Johnson (Choudrant) and senior guard Aly Thomas (Choudrant).

Adams gets the nod as the recipient of Player of the Year after guiding the Cougars to the school’s first ever state title game. Adams averaged 21.3 points, 6.1 assists, 5.8 steals and 3.5 rebounds per game this year. She recorded a triple double in the Division IV state semifinal win over St. Martin’s Episcopal.

When you have so much success across five programs, choosing the Coach of the Year is a difficult task. However, Cedar Creek’s Gene Vandenlangenberg earns our award after guiding the Lady Cougars to a 28-3 record and the program’s first ever appearance in a state title game since the school joined the LHSAA ranks in the late 1980s.
