Shoplifting suspect flees officer

A Ruston man was apprehended Saturday after he allegedly shoplifted and caused a disturbance at Super 1 Foods.

Ruston Police officers responded to the Graham Shopping Center about 3 p.m. Saturday after Super 1 reported a shoplifter had fled the store. The report stated when the suspect was confronted, he threw the food on the ground, rendering it unsellable. The suspect reportedly cursed loudly at the staff and shoppers before fleeing.

Officers located a man matching the suspect description in the Graham Shopping Center parking lot. Super 1 staff identified the man, 31-year-old Jacob Bellott, as the shoplifter. He was placed under arrest but when an officer attempted to handcuff him, Bellott broke free and ran. Commanded to stop several times, Bellott refused. A Taser was deployed to stop Bellott, and he was taken into custody.

Super 1 advised Bellott was told to leave the premises earlier in the day after loitering and begging customers for money.

Ruston Ambulance Service examined Bellott before he was released to be transported to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center.

Bellott was booked for theft by shoplifting, entering after being forbidden (trespassing), disturbing the peace, simple criminal damage to property, and resisting an officer.
