Parish hoops teams have representation on all-district teams

Lincoln Parish has a pair of prep boys hoopsters along with Choudrant’s Kylie Portilloz on the girls side to earn all district Most Valuable Player accolades for the 2022 season.

Ruston’s Braylan McNeal is the District 2-5A MVP after averaging 12 points, two steals and two blocked shots on the year for the Bearcats, who marched to the Class 5A quarterfinals before their season ended.

Simsboro’s Jordan Crawford was named the 2-B Boys Most Valuable Player after averaging 15.5 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 3.0 steals and 1.0 blocked shots per game for the state champion Tigers.

The Bearcats’ Jamadrion Lillard is also a District 2-5A first teamer after averaging 11 points and seven rebounds per game.

Ruston’s Aidan Anding earned second-team all district honors after averaging nine points and three rebounds per game.

Ruston also had four players earned All District 2-5A honorable mention — Dillon Wilson (nine points and three assists per game), Jackson Pilgreen (eight points and five rebounds per game), Joran Parker (six points and three rebounds per game) and  Zhy Scott (five points and three rebounds per game)

Lincoln Preparatory School put one player on the All District 1-1A first team — senior Dmitry Payne, who averaged 16.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 3.6 steals and 0.3 blocks per game).

The Panthers also had a pair of players earn 1-1A honorable mention — junior Braylan Mayfield (15.1 points, 10.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.0 blocks per game) and senior Ja’kyren Montgomery (9.0 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.2 apg, 0.7 spg and 0.3 bpg). 

Cedar Creek Jr. Carter Hill is the lone Cougar on the All District 2-1A boys basketball team.

The Cougars also had three players earn all district honorable mention — senior Hayden McClusky and juniors Connor Norris and Brian Osborne.

Lincoln Parish dominated the All District 2-B boys team with state champion Simsboro combining with Choudrant to secure five of the seven first-team slots.

Simsboro had a total of five players earn all-district honors while Choudrant also had five.

Joining Crawford on the 2-B Boys First Team were Simsboro’s Nick Maryland (16.0 ppg, 5.3 rpg., 2.0 apg, 2.5 spg and 0.8 bpg) and Chilaydrien Newton (17.7 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 4.5 apg, 2.3 spg and 1.0 bpg) along with Choudrant’s Chris Williams (20.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg and 2.7 spg) and Lachlan Thompson (12.0 ppg, 6.3 rpg and 2.2 apg).

Simsboro also had two players earn second-team all district honors — Shamarian Brantley (10.0 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 3.7 apg, 2.2 spg and 0.2 bpg) and Lee Abney (8.5 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 0.4 apg, 1.3 spg and 1.5 bpg) while Choudrant had one — Trey Harris (9.0 ppg, 5.3 rpg).

Earning All District 2-B Boys Team honorable mention were Choudrant’s Parker Batterton (6.7 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.2 apg and 2.2 spg) and Jackson Case (8.2 ppg, 3.5 apg).

 

GIRLS HOOPS

All-district basketball teams for Lincoln Parish’s girls high school have been released with plenty of representation from the piney red hills.

Ruston is led by All-District 2-5A first teamers Emerald Parker, a junior who averaged  10 points and 10 rebounds per game; and Jaliyah McWain, a sophomore who averaged 12 points and five rebounds.

Lady Bearcats earning second-team All District 2-5A accolades are seniors Kemiah Spencer and Alexis Foster along with sophomore Zaccheya Jackson.

Lincoln Prep’s Tiyan Heard earned first-team All District 1-1A accolades while the Lady Panthers’ Asijah Wright and Tamara Owens both earned all district honorable mention.

In District 2-1A, Cedar Creek senior Sarah Adams, who averaged 21 points, six assists and six steals per game, and junior Allie Furr were first-team selections while junior Lizzie McAdams and senior Miller Venters were named to the second team.

Choudrant High School senior Kylie Portilloz is the All-District 2-B Girls Most Valuable Player after averaging 17.4 points, 14.5 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 2.2 steals and 0.7 blocks per contest.

Two other Lady Aggies earned second team All-District 2-5A accolades — CHS junior Mattie Johnson  averaged 11.3 points, 4.5 rebounds. 2.7 assists and 2.0 assists per game while senior Aly Thomas added 9.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest.

Simsboro junior Ikeia Brown won Lincoln Parish’s girls scoring title with 32.8 points per game and also earned first-team honors on the All District 2-B squad.

The speedy Brown also averaged 8.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 6.0 steals and two blocked shots per game.

Simsboro’s Amani Dean was a second-team all-district selection after averaging 9.5 points and 7.0 rebounds on the season.

Choudrant freshman Zoey Smith earned 2-B honorable mention after averaging 5.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 1.0 steals per contest.
