Allie Furr recorded four hits and Lizzie McAdams and Lillian Soto each hit three-run home runs as Cedar Creek defeated Ouachita Christian 14-2 in five innings Wednesday.
The Lady Cougars (6-4, 2-0) remain undefeated in District 2-1A play with the victory as they head into a contest tonight at Sterlington.
Cedar Creek head coach Julie Riser said she was happy with what she saw in the win over the Eagles.
“I think this is the first time in 10 games that I feel like we put it all together,” said Riser. “We got a late start with our basketball team (making it to the state title game). We have played 10 games while a lot of our opponents have played 18 or more. I’ve been through this before. It usually takes about two weeks for (the basketball) players to get back into softball form. It’s been a little over two weeks.”
Furr was 4-for-4 at the plate out of the leadoff spot and scored three runs. Riser said the junior has been almost unstoppable at the plate thus far this season.
“She is hitting right at .750 for the year,” said Riser. “Last weekend she only got out one time and that was a line out. Allie is something else. She is on fire right now.”
In Wednesdays win, Cedar Creek took advantage of some early inning wildness by the OCS pitcher and jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.
“We had an early lead in first inning,” said Riser. “We took advantage of their pitcher struggling. And then we kept going after that. We played pretty well. I think today is first game we had it all together.”
Creek tallied 11 hits in the win, led by Furr (4 hits, 3 runs), Peyton Muse (2 hits, 1 run), Sarah Adams (1 hit, 3 runs), Soto (HR, 3 runs, 3 RBI, 3 walks), McAdams (HR, 2 runs, 3 RBI), Olivia Underwood (1 hit, 2 RBI, 1 run) and Anna Grace Lee (1 hit, 1 RBI).
“We hit well,” said Riser. “We can hit one through nine in our order. That is our biggest asset. That’s good for a 1A program. We just have to continue to get our pitching and defense to come along consistently.”
In the circle, Chloe Brashear picked up the win for the Lady Cougars, allowing just two runs – one earned – on four hits and no walks while striking out two.
“Chloe did good today,” said Riser. “She didn’t walk any which is a plus. We played 5 innings and she only threw 68 pitches, 45 of those for strikes. She had a really good game. That’s who she is. She is not overpowering. We preach locate fastball and mix in off-speed and work around hitters. She locates well. That was key for her tonight.”
Following today’s game at Sterlington, Cedar Creek will host the Caroline Menzina Memorial Tournament this weekend at the Ruston Sports Complex.
