Body of missing man found  

A former Ruston resident who was reported missing from his West Monroe home June 19 has been found dead.

The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that a body had been found in the wooded area in the 100 block of Kiroli Road in West Monroe Tuesday evening. 

R. L. Axton, Jr. was last seen leaving his West Monroe residence on June 19 in a 2013 GMC Terrain, olive green in color with pearl gold flaking and chrome wheels. 

Family members had pleaded for help on social media since his disappearance. The family reported Axton’s disappearance as suspicious since he did not take his phone, wallet, or shoes. 

Axton grew up in Lincoln Parish and has many family members in the Ruston area.

Deputies said after a call to the sheriff’s office, they located decomposed remains at the Kiroli Road location. The circumstances of the death are under investigation.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death and the identity of the deceased. The Sheriff’s Office said further details will not be available until the autopsy is complete.
