The Dawghouse Sports Grill is on schedule to open in late August.

Danielle Davis probably had a few sleepless nights in April and May as construction fell behind on the renovated Dawghouse Sports Grill.

However, Davis is now back to smiling – and planning – for the local restaurant and hangout to open on schedule in late August.

“Construction on the new Dawghouse is going well,” said Davis. “We were about a month behind, but we were able to rework the schedule. It looks like if everything stays on track we should hit our mark (of August 29th).

“We are hoping to have a temporary (certificate of occupancy) by Aug. 29. We may try to get it a little sooner. The outside may not be completely done, but the main nuts and bolts to gets us back open (and operational) will be done. We will be cooking and serving food. Most of the TVs will be up. The air conditioning will be working.”

The 23-year-old establishment was closed down in March in preparation for complete demolition and subsequent rebuild into an establishment that will increase its seating capacity by around 100 patrons. The original Dawghouse held 130 while the new one will hold close to 230.

Construction has moved quickly. The slab was poured May 21 and the walls were finished on June 28th.

“If you think of what we have done in a month and two weeks, it’s not too shabby,” said Davis. “Now it’s a matter of just finishing it out.”

Davis said that with the exception of some more concrete and a few other entities outside the walls, weather shouldn’t affect progress from now until the opening.

“We are in the dry now,” said Davis. “The roof is on although it is not completely done because we have to do the air conditioning and the ventilation and all the plumbing. We still have some concrete that has to be poured, but now its up to the (subcontractors) and all of them working on top of each other (to get things done). We are just trying to keep everyone organized and the wheels just moving constantly.”

Even with the larger footprint for the new Dawghouse, Davis said only two parking spots have been lot.

Davis did say that the pergola planned for the outside beer garden will have to wait until most likely next spring.

“We are waiting on that,” she said. “It’s engineered. It’s ready to be ordered, but I wanted to feel a little more comfortable within the budget. It was a luxury, not necessarily a necessity. It will be amazing, but for the time being, maybe until spring, we will wait.”

Davis said they would start the hiring process sometime in early August and that people should watch for announcements about the application process on the Dawghouse Facebook page.
