Wanted man flees police

A Mississippi man was arrested Thursday night after he fled an attempt to arrest him on the Louisiana Tech campus.

At about 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Louisiana Tech Police Officer Jason Fertal stopped a truck without a license plate on campus at the intersection of Homer Street and Texas Ave.

The driver identified himself as Christopher A Griste, 26, of Batesville, Miss. A record check revealed Griste was wanted by authorities in Panola County, Mississippi.

Once the warrant was verified, Officer Fertal had Griste step out of the truck, and he complied. The officer saw a handgun in the pocket of the driver’s door and secured it, then informed Griste of the warrant.

Griste fled on foot east on Texas Avenue and jumped a construction fence where he was apprehended. He was taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center where he was booked on the fugitive warrant and for resisting an officer. The nature of the Panola County charge was not immediately available. A Batesville-area newspaper indicated Griste has appeared in court there on numerous charges.
