Gun found on GSU campus

Two men were arrested Thursday after a handgun was seen in a Grambling State University dorm room.

Campus police officers responded to Tubman Hall Wednesday afternoon after a GSU employee smelled marijuana and found a firearm lying on a dresser in the room. The staffer said a suspect took possession of the firearm and fled the area before responding officers arrived.

GSU officers detected a small strong odor of suspected marijuana in the room. A bag containing suspected marijuana was found. Cameron Davis, 20, of Baton Rouge, said the marijuana was his but the firearm seen earlier was not. He said his cousin, Jerome Walker, 22, also of Baton Rouge, was owner of the handgun.

The officers directed Davis to contact Walker to obtain the location of the firearm. Walker said he was no longer on campus and had disposed of the gun by giving it to an unknown acquaintance off campus. During the subsequent investigation, the firearm was recovered, and Walker and Davis arrested.

Davis was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for possession of marijuana. Walker, 22, was charged with carrying a firearm on school property.
