Police find guns investigating loud party

Two Monroe men were arrested after Ruston Police responded to a large loud party last Tuesday evening.

While some officers were dealing with the party, another officer was stationed at the front gate of University Club Apartments at 1201 W California Ave. to restrict entry to anyone who did not live in the apartments. A gray Dodge truck pulled into the apartments and the officer saw smoke coming from inside the cab. When the driver rolled down the window, the officer saw a large cloud of smoke coming from inside the truck and smelled the odor of suspected burning marijuana.

When asked for the location of the marijuana, the driver, Jamal Hoard, 20, said it was in the middle console of the front seat. There the officer located a bag containing raw marijuana, a scale, and a handgun. Another handgun was found under the back seat of the truck.

Hoard said the marijuana, scale, and the handgun was his. Passenger Larry Smith, 20, stated the handgun under the back seat belonged to him.

Both men were arrested and taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center. Smith was booked for illegal possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled substance. Ford was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and illegal possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled substance.

Bail for Smith was set at $10,000 and $12,500 for Hoard.
