ABOUT LA TECH

Louisiana Tech split last week’s season-opening pair beating Murray State (2-1) and dropping one to Northwestern State (4-1).

Tech has been led on the field by junior defender Kalli Matlock who has logged a team-best 162 minutes of action, and registered three points off one goal and an assist. Matlock scored the first goal of the season for the Techsters in the first half of the season opener and added an assist against NSU.

Tech has used the full force of its depth through its first two matches of the season, with all 21 of Tech’s active players seeing action over the opening weekend, including all non-goalkeepers logging at least 45 minutes of playing time.

In goal, Tech has used all three of its goalkeepers, with sophomore Sydnee Korchak going this distance in the opener, registering two saves. Sophomore Libe Banuelos made the start in the second match registering two saves in her 18 minutes of action, before being replaced by senior Christina Hjelvik who registered three saves.

Tech’s keepers have combined for seven saves through two matches, netting 2.50 goals against average.

On the offensive side of the ball, Tech has totaled 20 shots, 12 of which have been on goal, and scored three goals while registering three assists as a team.

LA Tech, in its 19th season as a program, will be looking to post its 175th program win Friday night.

ABOUT ABILENE CHRISTIAN (1-1-0)

Abilene Christian comes to Ruston opening its season with three straight Conference USA opponents after splitting its opening week with a loss to North Texas (5-1) in Denton and then bouncing back with a 4-0 victory over UTEP at home.

The Wildcats are led by senior midfielder Natalie Jones, a three-time all-conference honoree. Jones was named second-team All-WAC last season as a junior, was named second-team All-Southland following the 2020-21 season, and was also the Southland Conference Freshman of the Year in 2019 while also picking up first-team honors.

Jones has 18 career goals and 12 assists, including four game-winners. She has netted one goal in her lone game so far this season.

In goal, ACU has started two keepers, with redshirt sophomore Lily Foster opening the season at North Texas playing all 90 minutes while giving up five goals, but registered 12 saves and faced a total of 33 shots. Freshman Lili Ross made her first-career start at home against UTEP, picking up the clean sheet win while registering two saves.

Abilene Christian has scored five goals in their two games, including a pair from Chayse Thorn against UTEP. Thorn currently leads the team in points (4).

THE SERIES

Friday’s matchup will mark the second overall meeting between the two programs and Abilene’s first trip to Ruston.

The first and only other matchup occured in Abilene in 2020, where LA Tech took a 2-1 overtime victory thanks to Tomoyo Kuroyanagi’s game-winner in the 92nd minute.

ACU took a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute, but Erin Chung’s equalizer just six minutes later set the stage for Kuroyanagi’s extra-time heroics.
