Tech Volleyball opens its season today at Clemson.

The Louisiana Tech Volleyball team gets the 2022 season underway this weekend as they face off against Austin Peay, Presbyterian and host Clemson inside Jervey Gym at the Big Orange Bash.

LA Tech, led by fourth-year head coach Amber McCray, is taking part in the first of four round-robin invitationals during non-conference play.  The Lady Techsters will also take part in the Fresno State Invitational (Fresno, Calif.), the UCA Invitational (Conway, Ark.) and the Battle for the Boot (Hammond, La.).

The team is led by returners Mallory MeersMorgan Smith and McKenzie Johnson.  Meers anchored LA Tech in assists last season with 591 while Smith had a team-high 92 blocks and Johnson, a Second Team All-Conference USA selection, registered 445 digs.  The libero Johnson broke multiple program records last season, including average digs per set and most digs in a single game.

LA Tech has half a dozen newcomers – Kalee CadwellCarla EsquerJailen HurleySydney JackwinAshley Taylor and Chard’e Vanzandt – who also look to make an impact this season.  Added into that newcomer mix is also Andrea Spasojevic who sat out last season due to injury, Imana Ellis who suffered a season-ending injury last year as well and Ashley Jones who redshirted.
Austin Peay returns nine players off last year’s 21-win roster, led by right-side hitter Mikayla Powell who was a First Team All-Ohio Valley Conference selection after notching 317 kills.  They are led by head coach Taylor Mott who enters her 11th season with the Governors who were picked to finish seventh in the Atlantic Sun preseason poll.

Presbyterian heads into the 2022 season after going 12-15 in 2021.  The Blue Hose, tabbed to finish fifth in the Big South Conference preseason poll, are led by returners Rylee Moorehead and Anna Hewitt who combined for 722 kills last season.  Leading the charge is Korrinn Burgess who begins her 10th season as head coach.

Clemson is looking to take another step forward in 2022 as head coach Jackie Simpson Kirr enters her second season at the helm.  The Tigers went 12-18 in 2021 and are picked to finish 10th in the ACC preseason poll.  Their key returners include Camryn Hannah and Ani Clark who combined for 458 kills a season ago.
