Two men were arrested last Wednesday morning on the Grambling State University campus for drug and gun violations.
At about 10:00 a.m., Officer I. Boldes of the Grambling Police Department clocked a Nissan Sentra on Stadium Drive traveling 81 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone.
The vehicle appeared to attempt to elude the officer, making numerous turns through Grambling and GSU streets before pulling into the Holland Hall parking lot, a campus apartment complex.
When Officer Boldes questioned the driver if he attempted to elude police, he replied no, he had an emergency but could not specify the nature of the emergency.
A records check showed the driver, Brandon S. Carter, 20, of Laplace, was driving while his license was suspended.
Officers smelled marijuana coming from the car and a search recovered a Glock 19 pistol and a small amount of suspected marijuana. Neither are permitted on university campuses.
Carter and his passenger, Jacoby E. Brown, 22, of Monroe were arrested and booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center. Both were charged with possession of marijuana in a school zone and possession of a firearm in a school zone. Carter was additionally booked for speeding, careless operation of a vehicle, and driving under suspension.
Grambling State University Police assisted in the investigation.
