Lincoln Parish residents — any residents — have an opportunity to purchase their fall pumpkins from the Lincoln Parish Detention Center starting today from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.
Pumpkins will be sold each day this week while supplies last.
According to Lincoln Parish Sheriff Stephen Williams, proceeds from the sale of the pumpkins go back into the inmate welfare fund which pays for microwaves and televisions for the dorms (something not included in the Detention Center’s annual budget).
Proceeds are also used to help offset other programs such as the wood shop and garden. Williams said this past year, the produce from the garden was used to feed inmates due to the increase costs of food prices.
The Lincoln Parish Detention Center looks for every opportunity to support itself with projects like these.
