Ruston High’s top ranked football squad (5-1, 1-0 Dist. 2-5A) heads to Cenla for the second week in a row; this time for a matchup against the Pineville Rebels (0-6, 0-1 Dist. 2-5A) to continue district play.

For Ruston, it’s a chance to stay at or near the top of the Non-select Division I power ratings as the playoff picture begins to crystallize over the course of the next few weeks.

Equally important for the Bearcats and the coaching staff is the change for the team to continue to improve as the regular season begins to draw to a close.

“We are still trying to put together a complete game from start to finish in all three phases of the game,” Ruston head coach Jerrod Baugh said. “Regardless of who we play Friday, we need to get into that frame of mind and make that our routine and what our identity as a team is.”

The Bearcats pulled away from ASH last Friday night in the second half to win by a final score of 48-23. Ruston benefited from a one-sided rushing attack, out-gaining the Trojans 336 yards to 85 yards on the ground for the entire ball game. The Trojans pulled to within a single score in the third quarter before the Bearcats added to their second half lead.

The Rebels have struggled this season and have gone winless in six contests.

Ruston at Pineville will kick off at 7 p.m. tonight. The game can be heard on Z107.5 FM and will be streamed live on BearcatNationNetwork.com.
