Ruston High School swept the Captain Shreve Lady Gators in straight sets Tuesday night by finals scores of 25-10, 25-8, and 25-18 in a home contest.
The Lady Bearcats have improved to 25-9 after the midweek victory.
“I know people say that a win is a win, but I want it to be a well executed win,” Ruston head coach Lucie Hunt said. “There are some things we could have done better in that last set. I tried some people in different positions, and I tell them all the time that it doesn’t matter who is on the floor, you need to execute and be aggressive. I’m still proud of the win; I just wish we had done some things better at the end.”
After a close start in the first set, the Lady Bearcats used a 4-0 run to take an 8-5 lead. For the remainder of the set, Ruston outscored Captain Shreve 15-9 to take the win.
In the second set, the Lady Bearcats opened up a 6-1 lead. After the Lady Gators pulled to within two, Ruston used a 10-1 run to take a 16-5 lead. Ruston outscored Captain Shreve 13-3 for the rest of the set.
The last set of the night proved the most competitive from the Lady Gators. Captain Shreve led 4-2 before Ruston put together a 7-3 run to lead 9-5. The Lady Gators answered with a 6-1 run of their own to lead 11-10. Ruston, however, regained the lead and began to pull away for the home sweep.
The Lady Bearcats will host West Ouachita Monday, Oct. 24, at 5 p.m. for senior night.
