Grambling State University Vice President for Intercollegiate of Athletics Dr. Trayvean Scott announced the University will honor the 1992 and 2002 championship teams during Homecoming on November 5 as the Tigers play host to Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
“We are extremely excited to be able to honor and celebrate these championship teams,” Scott said. “Homecoming is a fitting place to celebrate these former student-athletes for their accomplishments and their dedication to this great institution.”
The 1992 team, coached by Eddie Robinson, went 10-2 overall and 6-1 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), and won the Black College Football National Championship.
The 2002 squad, led by Doug Williams, compiled an 11-2 overall mark and 6-1 record in the SWAC, capturing the conference championship with a 31-19 victory over Alabama A&M.
Grambling State will honor both teams during halftime to commemorate their championship seasons.
