
A subcontractor working on the Lee Street lift station died Monday morning after a cave-in of the station.
The individual has been identified by authorities as James Burch, 62.
Ruston Mayor Ronny Walker said this loss of life was a tragic loss.
“Earlier this morning the City of Ruston learned that an employee of a subcontractor working at the City’s Lee Avenue Lift Station was involved in a fatal worksite injury,” Walker said. “We are heartbroken by this tragic loss. On behalf of the City of Ruston, I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends.”
Burch was taken to Northern Louisiana Medical Center but did not survive.
When asked if a report was available Chief Steve Rogers of the Ruston Police Department said that multiple entities were still looking into the accident site and that it could be several days before more detailed information is released.
The site is currently closed; no time has been given regarding when it will open back up.
