Both the Cedar Creek boys and girls varsity basketball teams open up their season this week.

Head coach Gene Vandenlangenberg and the Lady Cougars will open their season Tuesday night as the JV girls and varsity girls host Glenbrook at the Brickhouse. The JV girls game is at 5 p.m. and the varsity girls will then play at 6 p.m.

The Lady Cougars are coming off a season that saw them make history by advancing all the way to the Division IV state title game for the first time in school history. All-district honoree Allie Furr will be one of the leaders of this year’s team as Creek looks to replace five-year starters Sarah Adams to graduation.

First year Creek head coach Lance Waldron and the Cougars open their season Thursday night when the varsity boys join the varsity girls and JV girls as they host Sterlington at the Brickhouse. JV girls start at 5 p.m., varsity girls at 6 p.m. and the varsity boys and 7 p.m.

The Cougars return the nucleus of last year’s playoff team, but will be without a number of key players until the Creek football season is over.
