Downtown Ruston and Railroad Park often play host many community events that help bring Ruston closer together. This holiday season is no different, as the city of Ruston has created two holiday-themed events to help support its local businesses.

Amy Stegall, Main Street director and community coordinator for the city of Ruston, said the two events for Thursday, Dec. 8 will help bring holiday joy to the community of Ruston.

The first is the holiday singalong, which will include Christmas caroling from many local choirs. This family-friendly event will be a great way to listen to local choirs and indulge in the spirit of Christmas. This singalong will start at 6:30 p.m. at Railroad Park in Downtown Ruston.

The second event is the Sip and Stroll event. Local merchants will stay open from 5-8 p.m. so that shoppers getting off of work can have some extra time to get their holiday shopping done. This event will happen simultaneously with the singalong so that shoppers can not only shop locally but listen to others from the community sing about the joy of the season.

These events will wrap the community of Ruston together with the common theme of supporting local businesses and other people in the community. This is one of the goals of these events, Stegall said, to help Ruston experience what shopping local means. These events will help grow the community closer through business.

“We should support them [local businesses] because they support us every day,” said Stegall.

The Sip and Stroll event will occur Thursday night starting at 5 p.m. and the first choir will begin at 6:30 p.m.
